Happy Campers

While driving down here, it occurred to me that this year, we are more like campers than boaters.  (Our "camper" has a pointy end.)  In previous years, we launched somewhere up the west coats of Florida, and cruised our way south.  This year, my plan is to stay in the Keys, using this slip as a "base."  This marina allows us to leave our trailer parked here at no charge as long as we're renting a slip.  We usually pay a couple of hundert dollars to store our truck and trailer near our launch site.  And, having the truck here allows us to explore by land as well.
We have a bath house like most campgrounds.  We have electric and water hook ups.  We even bought a small microwave for the boat.  Every slip here has it's own pump out.  (Most of the long term boats have the pump out hose permanently attached.)  Our campground is the clear green water of the keys.  My guess is that our camp ground is cheaper than most campgrounds on the hard in the Keys.  We're paying $400.00 per month.  Doubt if you can find many other places to stay in the Keys for less than that.

When we checked in, the harbor master said it was good to get a small boat in--he doesn't lease out the "small" slips very often.  As I tried to get us secured in the assigned "small" slip, I found that my longest dock lines (25') would not reach from the boat to the forward pilings.  So when the wind blows from the NOrth, we swing out away from the dock.

It was 80 degrees when we arrived yesterday.  A cold front passed through last night, so the high today is only in the low 70's.  Brrrrr.

Pam counts out the number of vitamins she puts into the bottle for on the boat.  (She's been having me take MATURE multi-vitamins for some time, but as of yet, the "mature" part hasn't kicked in.)  So, when the vitamins are gone, it's time to head back home.  As you might guess, I only pretend to take one about every other day.  I may be old, but I'm not "cuckoo".
