Croton-on-Hudson

A few years ago, we cruised up the Cumberland River.  One of the marinas we stayed in was filled with lots of old houseboats.  While we were there, we saw a wedding on the dock.  Last night in Poughkeepsie, it happened again.  Although this wedding ceremony seemed quite a bit nicer than the one in Tenneesee.  At least the bride here wasn't "showing" yet.

The Hudson River is sort of AC/DC.  The current sometimes flows south, then because of the tide, it flows north.  Even up here in Poughkeepsie, it really rips in both directions.

We continued south again today.   The weather is much nicer than yesterday.

We passed an old castle on an island.

This is on the other side of the island.

I mentioned that there are trains on both sides of the river.  The trains on the East side are passenger trains running down to NYC.  The trains on the West side are freight trains.

This is also a train photo.
Even this shot of a waterfall has a train bridge.

West Point is impressive from the river.

So, since the railroad follows along the shoreline, you might wonder where the train is in this photo.  There happened to be a train heading north just as we got to West Point.  I watched it come right up to the buildings and then disappear.  There is a tunnel that runs under West Point.  Here's the entrance. (I also looked it up on the internet to confirm.)

You may remember on some of my prior blogs, that I have posted photos of several old Trumpy yachts.  Just after we passed West Point, we met another.  "Freedom"

To me, a Trumpy is a work of art. I'm grateful to those who are willing to spend the time and money to keep them alive.  Check out the fantail on this one.  (Does sound just a little perverted?)

Tonight we're in Half Moon Bay Marina in the town of Croton-on-Hudson.

We plan to make it down into New York City tomorrow, and anchor behind the Statue of Liberty.
