more Annapolis

Still Monday

We thought we'd see the sights in Annapolis, so we headed out up main street.

From the other side of the channel, it looks as if we tied up at the end of the street

We walked over to the Naval Academy, and they made the mistake of letting us through the gates.
They have an interesting Navy museum of ship models and naval battles.
We found the crypt of John Paul Jones in the basement of the chapel.

They say his body is preserved in alcohol inside this rather plain crypt.  I suppose if I hadn't quit drinking, I'd be preserved in alcohol too.

As you might imagine, dining in Annapolis is not an inexpensive proposition.  As we toured the town, we stopped to check out the menus of various restaurants.  We couldn't find anything reasonable.
Our friends on Grey Goose had been here last week and emailed us some ideas--including Pussers--where they saw this information regarding the name of our boat.

Then, I made the mistake of suggesting the Chart House.  We had passed it on the way in on the water, but weren't sure where it was by land.  We knew it was on the other side of the river, so we kept heading that way until we found the bridge.  we walked quite a ways and finally found it.  Unfortunately, it was the most expensive of the bunch.

Pam had picked up some tourist information, and like most guys, when all else fails, then it's time for the directions.  There was a place listed that had been awarded Sail Magazine's "Sailor's Favorite Bar and Grill."  Having been in the sailboat business for twenty years, I knew that place had to be reasonably priced.  Sailors are the cheapest people on the planet.  And it was not far from where we were.  The place is "Boatyard Bar and Grill."  It's in Eastport, across the river from Annapolis proper.  I would highly recommend it it--even if you're not a sailor (or cheap.)  I had crab cake pizza.  Sounds strange, but tasted great.

  1. Hi Mr. & Mrs. Moore,
    It's Kathleen!!
You are just minutes from my house!
I hope you are enjoying Annapolis.
If you haven't already, I would head east across the bay to Saint Michaels. I here it is beautiful. Don't forget to eat Maryland's famous blue crabs while you are here. Happy Sailing!
